Festive Cheer

Happy [insert winter solstice festival of choice] to you all, I hope it is filled with joy, good food, good drink and much festiveness. May [insert gift bringer of choice] bring everything you wanted and a few surprises too.

The Cupboard; Finally

The CupboardAlmost a year ago I started my foray into woodworking. My big project was the cupboard, which has been sitting in an almost finished state in the basement for several months.

I decided I wanted to have it on display for Xmas so I got to work finishing it. It didn’t take much; some bead board on the back and a knob on the front. It still needs a catch on the inside but the door stays closed without it so that can wait.

The frame of the cupboard is put together using dovetail joints and the inside shelves are in groove joints. The decorative detailing around the top was done with a router. The reveals at the bottom with a jigsaw. The door has two raised panels, raised with a table saw. The whole thing is painted with milk paint followed by a coat of linseed oil and some antique wax.

I’ve been off work for two weeks, I haven’t blogged, and I missed my citizenship test.

I’m a slacker, but a proud one. To find out why, go here. Make sure you read the whole post from Dec 15.

Study time

I received a letter from Citizenship and Immigration Canada telling me to turn up for my citizenship test on 7th December. That’s next Wednesday. I guess I should start studying.

When my application was initially acknowledged, many many months ago, they sent me a booklet called “A Look at Canada” containing lots of useful facts about Canada and its people. I’ve read it quite a few times but I’m not sure I’ve absorbed all the data.

So I went looking online for sample tests, and I found the Richmond Public Library practice test page. So far I’m doing ok on those questions, but some of them relate specifically to BC rather than Quebec.

One of the things I’ve been told I need to know is who the Queen’s representative in my province is. Jen didn’t even know that each province had its own royal representative, let alone who ours is. I found it easily online, but without looking it up, do you know who the Queen’s representative for Quebec is, and what her official title is?
