She’ll be Wearing Pink Pyjamas

Imagine you are working away at your desk. You are doing 10 things at once - spreadsheets, making and receiving international phone calls, composing an employemnt ad, sorting out some costing, etc…

What do you do when it all becomes too much? Why, you jump in the bath for a quick but relaxing soak and then put on your fuzzy flannel pyjamas and go back to your desk refreshed and relaxed and ready to tackle the next pile of crap that needs doing.

This is but one lovely advantage of working from home.

Can’t sleep because work is bothering you? Why bother making a nice cup of hot milk and then going back to bed when you can immediately attend to those things that were keeping you awake?

Working away on that last thing? Is it past 5 o’clock? No problem, it’s a short commute to the kitchen and living room, you’ll be done in a sec. Oh, wait, there’s time to slip in another little thing, oh, and wait, just this little thing too, it’ll only take a minute. Oh, is it 11:30 already? Crap!

These are the not-so-good things about working from home.

    lol - I’ve been there!!

I used to work from home. I used to think I’d have more motivation if I worked from home. Not so much. ;-)

    Hiya Jen, Happy NY :)

I plan on working from home, (eventually) - but with me it’ll be banning myself from blogsurfing in working hours!

However, working in PJs sounds really good…

Yeah working from home has it’s ups and downs, the main for me is that my peak brain activity is during some bizarre early morning hours so that’s when I do my best work, kinda hard to be in the office at 3am :)

You forgot to mention the piles of boxes, bubble wrap and useless paper products which litter our lovely home.

At least I come home to a warm welcome from my wife rather than an empty house though.

Oi, the mess is almost always in my office…almost.

Ah, my life for the last 5 years. ‘Tis bliss I tell you. The more experience you have with it, the less the “not-so-good things” occur.

Oh yes, the good things are good, but not so sure about “more experience you have with it part” 15 years is a long time :)

Working from home on Thursdays, and yes — it’s great. But right now I’m updating my blog and reading yours, instead of actually working. Don’t tell my boss.

Oh I would SO love to work from home. In my jammies…*sigh* Now I feel all kind of…discontent…

    Have a lovely day!

I’ve been “working” for hours already today. Sadly, only about 30 minutes of it is billable. But the kitty litter’s clean. Then I went to get myself more coffee before sitting down at my desk and started preparing tonight’s dinner. And I had a little nap. But I can make up for it at 2am.
    Sigh. You’re not alone.

working from home seems so nice in some may ways. there’s just one problem for me… i’m not self motivated enough to get the actual work done when i could be working on my blog, cleaning, etc.

I suspect that working from home requires in the very least a slight tendency towards being a workaholic. However, that is not to say that a certain amount of blog addiction feeding and household chores can’t take place during short but frequent work breaks.

The problem with working from home is that the line between work and private time blur. I worked from home for about a year, when my wife was also staying at home, I ended up working all day and night while taking an hour here and there to do other stuff, but it felt like working 24/7. I plan to do it again but next time I’m going to do it in a different way.

I’m still working on how to make it ok to wear my fluffy pj’s out to the office. Then life would be perfect.
