Open up!
March 17 - Due to the apparently overly subtle and satirical nature of this post, please read the comments and the linked article before leaving your own comments. I hope that will make things clearer.
Here’s an alternative for Kansas Attorney-General Phill Kline’s crusade to investigate and prosecute child rape.
Effective immediately, doctors must open up the medical files of any and all men who sought testing or tested positive for any kind of venereal disease. The logic for this is simple and as follows:
-Many men frequent prostitutes.
-Frequenting prostitutes may result in venereal disease.
-Prostitutes are often underage and vulnerable girls.
How about it guys? Who wants to be first to open up their medical files in aid of this very worthy cause? How about you, Phill?

My social security number is 011-58-5391. I’ve never been tested for a sexually transmitted disease. I’ve made people cry and broken the law several times. I’ve lied and I’ve had sex with some scary people. Anyone can read whatever they want of mine. It’s not the KNOWING that causes problems. It’s the IGNORANCE. This is not to be confused with STUPIDITY, which often times connotes anger when used to describe someone.
People who freak out because someone has herpes because they had sex with a prostitute and demand an investigation, just don’t get it and are ignorant to the point of PAIN.
I could care less about policies demanding I fess up. What I want and what I feel we need, are policies that demand people think and educate themselves and to not hate at the drop of a hat.
How about a policy that dictates schools teach children about feelings. Wouldn’t that be nice? Not Sentence Diagramming 110 but maybe Feelings 101.
Sample lesson plan: When hearing that your neighbor has an STD, you might feel scared and worried. DO NOT immediately become indignant and demand an investigation into child rape! Educate yourself and think! Is your neighbor okay? Maybe they don’t care. Is the prostitute okay? Some people actually like to receive money to have sex.
Sometimes prostitutes are actually GETTING infected, rather than INFECTING.
Is this thread/article to call attention to people who have sex with prostitutes often times rape children?

Oh yeah, I’m sure the prostitute got it from somewhere. Is this to say people who have sex with prostitutes aften times rape children?

Don’t know why those last 3 paragraphs repeated themselves. I’m sure annoying enought to have to read them once, never mind TWICE, haha.

Blerm, sadly, the chance one takes when one writes satire is that one will be misunderstood. My point here is very simply that medical records are private and confidential…period. The government has no business messing with them.
I believe the government has no right to demand the medical records of anyone who has had an abortion, late term or otherwise.
I also believe the government has no right to demand the medcial records of those who have sought testing for venereal diseases.
Prevention of sexually transmitted diseases and unwanted pregnancy through education is something I support wholeheartedly.

Holy crap, Blerm. I see you excelled at Feelings 101.
March 17th, 2005 at 10:14 am
That’s a little scary, because if men know that their records are not confidential, they’ll be less likely to seak treatment all together which not only means they’ll continue infecting others, but run the risk of being very sick or even dying.
You haven given me something to think about today.

I got your point Jen, and thought it well made. bravo.
Blerm: “How about a policy that dictates schools teach children about feelings. Wouldn’t that be nice? Not Sentence Diagramming 110 but maybe Feelings 101.”
Is this sarcastic? I certainly hope so. What a miserably terrible idea. They do this too much already.

Jay - I was being satirical. Medical records are confidential…period. STD testing is and should continue to be confidential. Did you read the article that I linked to? Politicians have no business poking around in women’s vaginas, uteruses (uteri?) or their medical records.
Sarah Beth - I hope so, given your blogroll, I’m a bit confused.
March 17th, 2005 at 12:54 pm
if they did that, men simply wouldn’t get tested at all and would just continue to keep spreading their disease(s). ick!

I DID write a comment about how much fun it would be for the names, addresses and pictures to be posted on the news every night. About how it would be the new craze to play hunt the pedophile, or spot the slut.
But, then I remembered….some people just wouldn’t get it.
March 17th, 2005 at 2:45 pm
lol! It’s OK, Jen. I noted the sarcasm and was just agreeing with you…..

What’s wrong with my Blogroll? Perhaps because Blogs About Hosting lists all the blogs on all it’s hosted member’s sites? Besides, my blogroll isn’t me, I don’t vouch for them or their views, they are just blogs I thought interesting the first time through and want to get back to. They aren’t a statement. Did you catch my article on this subject at my sister site?
March 17th, 2005 at 3:22 pm
Sarah Beth - there is nothing wrong with your blogroll, I am just surprised that someone who lists Michelle Malkin on their site would agree with me…on anything. I looked at your sister site and I see we defintely see eye to eye on this one

I hear circus music.

I agree with the essence of your arguments, but the statement
“Many men frequent prostitutes” disturbs me.
Who are these men? Are we talking Canadians here?
Have you got some facts about this?
March 20th, 2005 at 5:07 pm
Shawn - You are not seriously questioning that fact that men all over the world frequent prostitutes are you? I don’t have an exact number or percentage, but after all it is the world’s oldest profession. Ever check out the escort ads in the Mirror? Ever been to Holland? Ever driven down St. Denis street on a warm summer night? Ever hear of Charlie Sheen?
A quick search on google will bring up all kinds of facts and figures on prostitution. Take your pick.
Are you perhaps confusing “many men” with the majority of men?

“Are you perhaps confusing “many men” with the majority of men?”

Yes, thus was my misinterpretation of your statement.
Thanks for clarifying.

“Blerm, sadly, the chance one takes when one writes satire is that one will be misunderstood.”
Especially when it’s bad satire.
Anyway: Lighten up lady. There are enough bigots around without you acting in that role as well.
