New Zealand - Day 5
After a mediocre breakfast at our Kingsgate Motel, we wandered around Pahia trying to decide what to do, before eventually going to wait for the ferry to Russell.
Russell, a short ferry ride away, is a more pleasant town than Pahia, not quite as touristy. We wandered around the shoreline for a while and Jen went for a paddle.
We picked up a map from the museum and headed up a steep hill to find an amazing view of a deserted bay and beach (Long Beach). Unfortunately we didn't have time to walk all the way down to it.
On the walk back we visited Christ Church, took some pictures of a succulents garden, and got some chips, which we shared with the local ducks.
After our chips it was time to board the Dolphin Discoveries catamaran for an amazing 3 hour tour of the Bay of Islands. We saw breathtaking sceneries, amazing houses belonging to very rich people, rare birds, dolphins, fish, and the world famous hole in the rock. Standing at the bow of the boat as it ploughed through the waves at 35 knots was a lot of fun too.
We finished the day with an unusual shrimp/bbq sauce/bacon/brie pizza at La Scaletta Pizzeria.
